Shopping Cart Themes - Notes & Pointers
1. PayPal Account - remember, you must sign up a PayPal account in order to create a
functioning PayPal Shopping Cart on your ShutterBug site.
2. Using the Shopping Cart Feature - if you are new to the ShutterBug PayPal Shopping
Cart feature, you will need to read the related section in the Online User Manual. For the
Shopping Cart to activate, you must have both the Price and Description fields filled out in
the Shopping Interface of Content Mode. If you leave either one of these fields blank, your
shopping cart will not appear or activate.
3. Shopping Cart Theme Design - Shopping Cart themes provide a pre-packaged layout
and design. Themes do not equal Shopping Cart functionality. You must create your
shopping cart content in Content Mode. Apply the theme and templates to your pages. In
Layout mode, the theme comes with Shopping Cart settings already set for you. However,
you can adjust these settings under the "Shopping Cart" tab in Layout mode.
4. Customize, Change or Delete - As with all ShutterBug themes, these shopping cart
themes are also fully customizable. You can change everything and anything you want.
You can delete templates, copy them, or delete elements from a template, move the
elements around. It is up to you! If you are new to ShutterBug's Layout window, please
click here to learn more about design creation and customizing themes (read Chapters 6
through 8).
5. Choose to Add only a Few Templates from the Selected Theme - You may already
have an existing ShutterBug site with a design and layout already in place. In that case, if
all that you're looking for are 2 or 3 templates that display the product groupings, the
itemized products in a grouping, and the purchase page, you can just "add on" those
templates to your existing site.
This is how you do it - After you have imported your theme into your theme library, you
can choose to either add the templates to the existing theme that you are currently using,
or you can replace the theme completely. If you only want to use a few templates from
the downloaded theme, choose to "add the templates". All of the templates in the theme
will be added in the template drawer. Select each one to determine the ones you want to
keep. You can delete the templates you do not want, by opening the template drawer in
Layout mode. Click the "Delete" button and this will open a dialogue box listing all
templates that are not in use. From that list, check off the templates you want to delete
and click 'OK'. The selected templates will be deleted instantly.
6. Themes & "Xtra" Boxes - some themes contain heavy use of Xtra boxes in order to
add standard components to a page, that online shoppers are accustomed to seeing.
Themes that use such xtra boxes, contain images or text content for example purposes.
You will need to edit the text/images that are inside of an xtra box to suit your needs,
from within Layout mode. If you are new to "Xtras", please read the related section in the
7. Some Adjustments You May Need to Make - in some cases, with a "Buy It" Page
template, you may need to adjust the caption lines and description settings, depending on
how they "flow" on the page. For example, a template that is intended for only a few
lines of text below each photo - if there are several lines of text below the photos, these
lines of text may overlap with any xtra text boxes situated below the caption text. You
may also need to move the Buy/Shopping Cart button up or down, depending on where
the caption text flows.
8. Changing An "Add to Cart" Button to a "Buy Now" Button - in Layout mode, select
the "Shopping Cart" tab. From the drop down list on the bottom left of the interface,
select the desired button. And that's all you have to do - you will see the button change in
Layout view.
9. Use ImageWell to Create Buttons and Bordered Boxes - all of the Shopping Cart
themes use the stand-alone ImageWell for creating rounded boxes, rounded navigation
buttons, special "promotional" images", etc. We did not have to use any other image
editing or graphics program to create these themes. If you would like to change some of
the shapes and objects used in a theme, simply open ImageWell and create a new shape
(to get the correct dimensions, refer to the existing image/box used in Layout mode of
ShutterBug). Once you have created your new shape, simply drag and drop it into the
corresponding image well in ShutterBug's Layout mode.
